Ibema adopts Trimble Wedge technology to maximize efficiency in its paperboard production

Founded in 1956, Ibema—Companhia Brasileira de Papel stands out in the paperboard market, with customers in 20 countries in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa. To remain successful in a competitive market, Ibema has set ambitious goals to grow its production volume. This requires action from the company’s Industrial Management area: production must run at maximum efficiency, and operating losses need to be minimized. To achieve these targets, Ibema realized they not only need to use their resources smartly but also find tools to better analyze their process and quality data to make the right data-based decisions. 

Digital transformation is a strategic priority for Ibema to boost safety, innovation, operational efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness in the market and in daily operations. To advance its Industry 4.0 and 5.0 initiatives, Ibema selected Wedge, Trimble’s industrial data analysis system, to ensure its process and quality data are managed and analyzed in a comprehensive, fast and easy way. 

Wedge boosts Ibema’s operational efficiency

In March 2024, Ibema began implementing Trimble Wedge in its two plants: Turvo in Paraná and Embu das Artes in São Paulo. These plants have a production capacity of 157 thousand tons per year and different levels of industrial automation. 

Wedge is a strategic tool that allows Ibema to optimize the visualization and analysis of process and quality data. It has an intuitive interface and is easily accessible to our operators, production leaders, quality analysts, engineers, specialists, and maintenance and management staff. This facilitates accurate diagnoses and prevents imminent problems,” says Leandro Agostini, Ibema’s specialist in Continuous Improvement and Industrial Engineering.

In these plants, Wedge centralizes dispersed information into a single system, allowing operators to perform quick day-to-day analysis and engineers and process specialists to plan improvements. The goal is to mitigate risks, increase productivity, and democratize access to information for data-driven decisions. 

Wedge promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing between teams, strengthening data-driven decision-making and boosting the company’s operational efficiency.”
